Alpha-blend
klecks pure 1a

These videos support the claim made in the paper that standard "(alpha,1-alpha)"-blending is not suited for LOD blending.

The videos below show the same sequence emplyoing different LOD switching techniques:
- conventional alpha blending (artifact shown: semitransparency)
- hard switching (artifact: popping)
- our unpopping technique

alphablend_problematic_distance_2

Alphablend with distance based LOD Selection

With distance based LOD selection (in practice the most widely employed, due to ist simplicity and robustness), conventional alphablending between LODs leads to a permanently semitransparent object at certain distances to the LOD object.

Unpopping vs Alphablend

In this scene first our method is empolyed and after some time conventional alpha blending is used for the LOD blend.
