The research unit of Computer Graphics at the Institute of Visual Computing and Human-Centered Technology at TU Wien and the Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies at University of Applied Sciences St.Pölten are offering a joint position as Pre-Doc university assistant (doctoral candidate) within the FWF-funded basic research project “Joint Human-Machine Data Exploration”. Expected start: Winter 2025/2026 (as soon as possible).
Tasks:
- Research at the intersection of visualization, machine learning, and human-computer interaction
- Designing, implementing, validating, and reporting novel solutions for human-AI collaboration for exploratory analysis of large, unstructured data
- Working with real users by conducting user studies in the lab or online
- Writing publications
- Participation in conferences and workshops
- Attending courses during the PhD program
- Writing a dissertation
- Optionally supporting supervision of student projects and theses within the scope of the research project
Your profile:
- Finished M.Sc. in visual computing, computer science, data science, or equivalent (completed by the starting date of the employment).
- Very good programming skills (web-based visualization, Python, and / or GPU programming).
- Very strong interest in basic research in visual analytics, visualization, AI, and human-computer interaction.
- Publication experience is a plus.
- Strong interest in doing a PhD, writing papers, and scientific discourse.
- Team player and good communication skills.
- English communication and writing skills.

Entry level salary is determined by the FWF personnel costs and salary rates for doctoral candidates. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,786.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week.
The position is offered for 30 hours/week, but an extension to 40 hours/week can be negotiated. The position is currently limited until 30th of April 2028.
