We are looking for talented doctoral candidates who are ready for the adventure of their lives, pursuing a doctorate in visionary topics in the historically vibrant city of Passau in distant and mysterious Bavaria, with plenty of contact with natives in the fields of industrial X-ray computed tomography and materials science!

Specifically, this year we have been awarded a project from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) call in the Horizon Europe program [1]. Our MSCA Doctoral Network X-CELERATE [2] is dedicated to the development of new techniques and methods for the analysis of time-resolved industrial computed tomography data (4DCT, i.e., 3D + time). As an application case, we have chosen smart materials, i.e., materials that can reversibly change their shape or other properties through triggers such as light, temperature, electricity, etc..

X-CELERATE will train 10 doctoral candidates and enable them to pursue a doctorate at the interface of visualization, data analysis, industrial 4DCT, and smart materials in an international network. In my group, we will focus on the subproject “Progressive visual data analysis and visual steering in dynamic X-ray imaging processes” [3].

With X-CELERATE set to start soon, we are looking for suitable doctoral candidates. Please note the mobility rule for MSCA projects: Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the hiring beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately prior to their recruitment. Doctoral candidates from Austria to whom this rule applies would therefore be eligible for funding in Passau.

The first deadline for applications is November 16, 2025.
