We start in the 60's with Sketchpad, NLS and Grail, and see how these seminal ideas influenced the SmallTalk work with children at Xerox PARC. Finally, we explore human psychology and the multi-mentality theories that helped the PARC designer's work.

Speaker Biography

Alan Kay received his PhD in computer Science from the University of Utah in 1969. He joined the artificial intelligence project at Stanford University, and in 1970 became a founding principal at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, where he remained for 10 years. After Xerox, he was Chief Scientist at Atari. With Apple Computer since 1984, Alan is an Apple Fellow with the independent charter to explore new ideas for Apple's future.
