5TH EUROGRAPHICS WORKSHOP ON VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS
|
|
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
AIMS AND SCOPE
The EUROGRAPHICS WORKSHOP ON VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS has become a well-known
international forum for the exchange of experience and knowledge among
researchers and developers concerned with virtual environments and virtual
reality.
Following the initial Workshop on VEs in Barcelona (Sep. 93), the two
workshops in Monte Carlo (Jan. 95, Feb. 96), and the highly successful
Virtual Environments Conference in Stuttgart (June 98), EUROGRAPHICS is now
organizing a fifth event one which is going to take place together with the
Joint EUROGRAPHICS - IEEE TCCG Symposium on Visualization
(VisSym'99)
in Vienna, Austria.
This year a special focus is set on research, techniques and applications of
AUGMENTED REALITY. Authors with outstanding contributions to this focus will
be asked to publish an extended version of their paper in the planned
special issue of COMPUTERS & GRAPHICS on Augmented Reality.
Besides Augmented Reality, stimulating research papers as well as case studies in the general field
of virtual environments will be presented. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Augmented reality
- Real-time graphics techniques
- Image based modeling and rendering
- Multi-resolution modeling and rendering
- Interactive modeling, rendering, and animation
- Hardware graphics acceleration
- virtual reality for scientific visualization
- Innovative 3D input and output devices
- 3D human computer interaction
- Multimodal Interaction
- Video-based Interaction
- Internet-based 3D applications
- Networked virtual environments
- VRML
- VR systems development
- Tele-collaboration and teleoperation
- VR applications in indistry, markting, e-commerce, entertainment,
architecture and other areas
The workshop is planned to be organized as a single-track
assembly of presentations of research papers and industrial applications.
Enough time for discussion is
scheduled after the talks and inbetween the sessions. Invited talks
of renowed experts in the field
will also be included. The scientific program will cover two days
in May/June, 1999. For details see the schedule below.
SCHEDULE
1998, Nov. 30th | Submission deadline |
1998, Jan. 15th | Notification of acceptance |

1999, May 31st and June 1st | Two days workshop |
RELATED EVENTS
The following events will take place in conjunction with EGVE99:
- EGVE99 is held together with the
EUROGRAPHICS-IEEE TCCG Symposium on Visualization (VisSym'99).
VisSym99 takes place just before EGVE99, on May 26-28, 1999.
- On the
weekend between VisSym '99 and EGVE '99 a boat trip to
Wachau - a very nice Danube canyon near Vienna which is famous for
its wine - is planned.
PAPER SUBMISSION
Authors are requested to prepare their paper (up to ten pages) according to
the style guides for Springer publications. Instructions for authors are
available via
To submit your research paper or case study, please upload a
PDF (preferred) or Postscript version (including no other fonts than Times,
Helvetica, Courier, and Symbol) of the full paper using FTP to
Postscript files should be compressed with either ZIP (.zip) or gnuzip (.gz)
After successfully uploading your paper, please send an email to
indicating the title of the paper, list of authors and a contact address.
Note, that we cannot accept any PDF or Postscript file which cannot be
viewed/printed using ghostview - there are too many (incompatible) file
formats around.
If you are not able to upload your paper as "ghostview"-compatible PDF or
Postscript, you alternatively can send five copies of the full paper including
figures and images by regular mail to

FEES
The fee for the workshop (including the book by Springer-Verlag,
i.e., proceedings, coffee breaks, and the workshop reception)
will be as follows:
ATS 2.900,- | for EUROGRAPHICS members |
ATS 4.000,- | for non-members |
VENUE AND ORGANIZATION
The workshop will be held in Vienna together with the Joint EUROGRAPHICS -
IEEE TCCG Symposium on Visualization (26-29 May, 1999). This gives interested
visitors a good oportunity to attend both events within one visit to Vienna.
Participation to the workshop will be open to all researcher, developers
and interested people from industry. An industrial exibition is planned.
EGVE99 will be held in Vienna,
Austria. It will be organized by the virtual environment group at the
Institute of Computer Graphics, Vienna
University of Technology, and the Austrian Academy of Science.
The talks will be given in a technically well-equiped conference
room right in the main building of
the Academy.
A social event featuring the beautiful city of Vienna will be
included within the program.
