"CoPerspective"
==========================

We have been developing works that use computer graphics to deviate from standard photographic realism. Our interest in alternative perspective systems extends to the combination of multiple points of view into one single image.

This work, "CoPerspective", takes the simultaneous juxtaposition of multiple points of view one step further by enabling two users interactively and jointly to determine the perspective of an image in real time. Each user manipulates a keyboard or joystick to move a separate virtual character inside a virtual room. The system then calculates an average of the points of view of the two individual characters and then produces an image that combines both perspectives into one.

The virtual room is designed to resemble an underground dungeon without doors. All of our work thus far has emphasized enclosed, claustrophobic spaces. This fits well with our interest in creating abnormal or artificial forms of perception, abstracted from ordinary embodied vision.

In this work, vision is not merely an individual achievement. It is a joint, collaborative accomplishment produced in real time. Two people must assume collective responsibility for the perspective representation. The program can also be used to allow for more than two users to work together.

The techniques used in this demo can be used as an artistic real-time application, or it can also be used as an "advance level of difficulty" in a multi-player computer games.
