Hybrid biological images

Description

Biological data provide structural information of large protein complexes and graphs are representative tools for visualizing relationships, such as chemical reactions. This project targets an integration of these physical and abstract domains to generate images that provide hybrid information.

Tasks

  • Getting familiar with our code base
  • Find the optimal cutaway scheme to embeds relationship information
  • Select appropriate relationship information and design a layout scheme to present them
  • Development/Implementation of the algorithm and create examples for applications

Requirements

  • Knowledge of English language (source code comments and the final report should be in English)
  • Knowledge of C++ and Qt is advantageous
  • You do not need previous biology knowledge, but interest in the topic is an advantage

Environment

An important part of the topic is the integration with our framework, called Marion. This framework offers methods for fast rendering of biological datasets, namely volume scans of cells and a large molecular scene in atomistic detail. (to be discussed)
