Description

Develop an interactive visualization tool that allows clinicians or researchers to explore patient treatment journeys, combining timelines of interventions, vitals, lab results, and outcomes. The goal is to make patterns, bottlenecks, and anomalies in patient care visually accessible. Provide an additional simplified view for the patients. The goal is to provide an overview to the patient without overwhelming them.

Tasks

  • Review the state of the art in visualization for patient journeys.

  • Collect or simulate patient data, including treatment events, lab results, and vitals.

  • Represent interventions, lab results, and outcomes along a temporal axis. Use appropriate encodings to differentiate those. Consider potential interactivity mechanisms in your approach, as well as the use of abstractions/metaphors.

  • Differentiate the tool for the clinicians/researchers from the one for the patients.

  • Conduct a small user study to assess usability and insight generation.

Requirements

  • Data visualization.
  • Basic understanding of medical data formats.
  • Knowledge of interactive design principles
