Abstract
We present a local feature size aware sampling method for the loop subdivision surface of a closed, irregular triangle-mesh. Such a sampling method can be used to reduce the vertices of a mesh, to those that contribute the highest amount of information to its shape. Therefore, this technique can be used to reduce the memory requirement for storing a surface and accelerate geometry processing, as well as measuring properties of surface reconstruction algorithms. A method for approximation of the medial axis as a triangle soup will be presented as well as the local feature size aware sampling of the Loop subdivsion surface.
