The task of people location is of great importance and interest in modern technology, even vital in certain fields. We usually place in indoor environments (at home, at work, in college, in the supermarket...) and, it is in these enclosed locations where GPS technology shows its limitations due to the signal transmission difficulties produced by objects and structures such as walls, ceilings, etc. This has led to the birth of a new research and development line in location technologies, enabling indoor locating services accurately and reliably. These technologies are called Local Positioning System (LPS).

The goal of this work is to examine the feasibility of using NFC technology for in- door location and information associated with it. The core part of this thesis covers the development of a demonstrator application running on the Android OS. The application gets location information by reading NFC tags.

The implementation provides a solution to get indoor location much more easier and simpler than with the other options, and allows the user to deploy the architecture in a building with a very low amount of money and in a quite fast way.
