Description

Event-based systems enable to monitor and control business processes in real-time. Application examples are real-time logistics management, or fraud detection and prevention in online betting or the telecommunication industry. An event-based system captures notable occurrences (e.g. a transport delay) and automatically reacts to the occurrence (event) with an appropriate response (e.g. rescheduling of transports). Obviously, this kind of processing produces vast amount of data. To analyze these data, SENACTIVE, a vendor of event-processing solutions situated in Vienna has designed the SENACTIVE EventAnalyzer. This growing framework for event data analysis provides infrastructure for searching the data repository as well as an interactive and configurable visualization of the data, the event-tunnel visualization (see also link below). Experience showed that the event-tunnel visualization is useful, but in several situations, the radial layout can be problematic. Currently only restricted possibilities exist to place correlated events close to each other. Clustering mechanisms are rather limited. Therefore we are continuously extending the EventAnalyzer framework and looking for new visualization ideas for event data.

Task

Your task will be the conception and implementation of a completely new visualization of event data that emphasizes correlations among events in the spatial placement. The visualization can be implemented either in 2D or 3D. We welcome innovative and new ideas – basically there is no limit to your creativity. For a successful and timely implementation, SENACTIVE offers a financial bonus. Furthermore, a subsequent part-time job at SENACTIVE is possible after a successful internship.

Requirements

Basic knowledge in computer graphics and information visualization, good programming skills.
