Illustrative Volume Rendering using Cut-Away Views

Praktikum

Ivan Viola, Eduard Gröller

Content:

Task

Implementation of various cut-away techniques with border enhancement (zig-zag border etc.)

Description

One of current streams of volume visualization research is illustrative rendering. The goal is to combine images rendered by traditional direct volume rendering with some technique simulating illustration. Typical illustrative rendering styles are contour enhancement, hatching, stippling, or other pen-and-ink techniques. These styles are often combined with cut-away views, which remove the outer part of an object in an intelligent way to show the hidden objects inside. How to remove some part of the outer object so that the user understands the image is an open problem.

Requirements

Knowledge in computer graphics and visualization.
