Description
Event-based systems enable to monitor and control business processes in real-time. Application examples are real-time logistics management, or fraud detection and prevention in online betting or the telecommunication industry. An event-based system captures notable occurrences (e.g. a transport delay) and automatically reacts to the occurrence (event) with an appropriate response (e.g. rescheduling of transports). Obviously, this kind of processing produces vast amount of data. To analyze these data, SENACTIVE, a vendor of event-processing solutions situated in Vienna has designed the SENACTIVE EventAnalyzer. This growing framework for event data analysis provides infrastructure for searching the data repository as well as an interactive and configurable visualization of the data, the event-tunnel visualization (see also link below). This visualization looks into the past stream of events and depicts the events in a radial layout cylinder. Events are represented as circular glyphs, with the possibility to encode various data dimensions in the size and color as well as the position of the events.
Task
Currently, this visualization is implemented in C#, based on the Piccolo.NET framework. To increase rendering performance we consider a switch to faster rendering frameworks like OpenGL.
Together with the CG Institute, SENACTIVE offers an internship in the exciting domain of information visualization. Your tasks are:
